Hi Guys, I got the beetle in with Gav to get restored so since it will be in his for the next month or so I thought I'd phone up the insurance company and see if I could put my insurance on hold as I'm forking out 1300 pounds a year for it so might aswell try and save over 100 pounds. So the conversation went like this Can I pause/hold my insurance?..........No Ok, can I temporarily transfer my car insurance over to my dads car ?.........No you're not the registered owner Whats the cancellation fee for my insurance?........Because you have only 4 months left on your insurance you get no money back. Is this just standard practice for an insurance company?

I'd say that's pretty standard. Can't see why you can't insure a car if you're not the registered owner. |

thats standard on the hold part .. and as you have only 4 months left she would be right about the % back if you stoped it... as for the registered owner part... No one is the registered owner of any vehicle .... and before you all start look at your log book! it says registered keeper so if you tell them that you are the keeper of the vehicle for three weeks ar so I think it should be okay... but they dont like a car with two insurance policy's so if your dad has insurance on the vehicle at the same time this could be a problem |

I was told before that you could temporarily swap insurance over as long as it went back onto the old car after a while, otherwise the car HAD to be registered to you. You could always swap it over and then chance your mind and not buy the other car before you get it registerd in your name Insurance companies are weird, you'll get a different story from them all. I'd the missus insured as a learner on the Polo for n extra £60 a year or something and when transfered cover onto rocco just left as it was. My renewal came in and I thought so asked them to take her name off................ the price went UP £80!!! I switched to another company and thought I'd see if it worked getting her added on "Sorry we couldn't insure a learner on such a high insurance group vehicle"
