I'm not sure that a Sunbeam or an SD1 are as iconic as say a Hillman Imp or a Morris Minor but iconic is a strange concept anyway.

A Ford Model T must be iconic as it's the first people's car but would everyone be able to identify one now? So many cars could make the list such as the Jaguar E-Type or Fiat 500 or Spridget or Porsche 911 but I'd say the most iconic would be the most widely recognised of all, regardless of time or location.

In the seventies you couldn't go a few yards here with seeing an Escort or a mark three Cortina but the cars that the most people with no interest in cars at all will spot instantly are, I believe, the original Beetle, Mini, Land Rover and US Army Jeep.

Of course a gullwing 300SL or a Countach are hugely iconic, though most people, even car enthusiasts may never have seen a real one.
