been having a look over the net on some examples of engines fitted to minis, some with the original type box too!! and alternative heads fitted to the a-series, not including the various 8 ports of arden etc or the kad conversions there were some creative folks out there trying to extract the most from the the wee puddle hoppers!! any other vehicles out there that have some wacky combinations fitted from back in the day ?? then post them up too here some pics , enjoy !! alloy block 1300 bdh on mini box ![]() the 2 cylinder bda special built to get round the 850 cc class rules in special saloons ![]() ![]() the coldwell twincam conversion with down draught design ![]() the cut down jag head version, one car was fitted with an engine up front and one in the rear with this conversion ![]() the lotus twink conversion ,this was fairly popular with the manx kit available at a time ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() probably the daddy of them the bda ![]() found this one too ![]() ![]() and the most modern diy one the bmw head , the tidiest looking one too imo ![]() obviously loads of redtops ,v-tecs , fiat twincams fitted , but they all used the donor car gearbox all of the above are mated to the a-series box, albeit some of them fairly modified a pointless thread but some interesting conversoins nonetheless

Pointless, nothing! Great thread. Haven't seen half of these before. I know of the Arden 8-port, the KAD 16v and the Jack Knight 16v (the latter which was only sold to the Japanese if I remember correctly). Think I may have heard of the BMW bike head but never saw it. It looks great and I assumed it was a different engine rather than just a head because you can't really see the A-series with it fitted. There's a beast of a Mini in California with a 2.2 V-Tec engine fitted over the rear axle but that's definitely not very period/ retro. |

nuts looking thiing alright LOL the bmw head one is a very tidy set up and theres now a few turbo versions out there ,arden was the most popular 8port head i think but there were umpteen others out there aswell that i hadnt known of myself ive always been fascinated by period conversions and tuning , especially alternative heads etc , theres a good few mini ones ive not put up ,, the x/flow engined , rover v8 and indeed there was a maxi powered one at a time LOL might stick up another thread on some other period engines/conversions aswell that fascinate me , this one was just a mini specific one as there were so many of them LOLcant believe i forgot this one aswell , from the 80s , 1500cc metro , an engine similar to this was used in rallycross

I like the idea of a lighter than standard engine in such a light car so the Suzuki Swift GTi motor appeals. Not as powerful as the VTecs but still about 100 bhp as a starting point and just about as light as anything you can find without the impracticality of bike conversions. At the other end of the scale (pun?), apparently this is a 383ci Chevrolet V8, lurking mostly behind the scuttle:

The BMW K-series head for the Mini is quite a conversion - thinking about it myself in the not too distant future (be nice in the Traveller!), and sound simply AWESOME. Here's a wee vid of the prototype; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=974kBWoZfhs |
